FIA compliant roll cage for Lotus Elan. This presents some special problems because of the Elan's back-bone chassis which has little strength in the perimeter of the body.
That means it's weak in all the places it would be nice to mount a cage. These back braces are fine because they can mount to the top of the suspension towers. Lotus Elan roll cage.
This design was first developed using our CAD system. The design was then subjected to a simulated load test using FEA in order to achieve MSA certification. This is a rendering of the complete design which shows in red two more outriggers supporting the base of the main loop, a cross tube joining the back stays and a roof diagonal. Lotus Elan roll cage.
These pictures were taken part way through installation of the cage. The main loop has to fit to an outrigger from the chassis and therefore needs more cross bracing than would be typical. Lotus Elan roll cage.

And again in the passenger foot well, this time two outriggers to support the forward tubes and the dash bar. Lotus Elan roll cage.
